SUBURB PROFILE

Ivanhoe

GREEN AND SERENE

...

Circa 9 km from the CBD, Ivanhoe a very Melbournesque suburb by virtue of its tree-lined streets, parks and heritage residential architecture. It is easy to see why it enjoys a brand as one of Melbourne’s “premier” suburbs and its related brand attributes – family-friendly, safe and green.

As a Melbourne buyers agent, I find it interesting the relatively large proportion of Ivanhoe buyers have grown up there as children and chose to buy homes in the same suburb to raise their own families.

Particularly convenient are the schooling options available within the vicinity, including the highly ranked and well-regarded Ivanhoe Grammar.

The “village” atmosphere is supported by the village-style shopping strip. It is all very “nice”.

To some extent, its weakness is its strength. With the lack of nightlife options, I suspect this is seen by residents as a good thing because it means the suburb is peaceful and quiet.

Well-serviced by public transport with two train stations and easy access to the Eastern freeway.

The demographic is older than a lot of other inner city Melbourne suburbs.
