As a Melbourne Buyers Agent, I am conscious I am operating in an industry that uses a lot industry specific terms, jargon and acronyms.

To help you get a better understanding of what they mean, I thought I will share insights into some of the more common terms you will come across as you go about looking for your property, starting with A to G.

It is generally accepted that “mid-century”, from an architectural design perspective, is the period post the end of the second World War through the 1950s and ending in the late 1960s.

The style evolved out of the Modernism style, from the early 20th century, which included the International and Bauhaus movements.

The street appeal of Federation houses - particularly when they have a bay window like this - is one of the reasons they enjoy strong, consistent buyer demand.

Immediately recognisable by their arched colonnades with twisted columns, these Spanish colonial houses are keenly sought when they hit the market.

Some of the more fertile hunting grounds for Deco in Melbourne include East Melbourne, inner bayside, South Yarra/Prahran and Hawthorn.

Australians looked to California (in part Hollywood’s influence) with its warm climate & modern relaxed lifestyle for architectural inspiration & the Cal Bung resonated - as a more modest, affordable & lower maintenance housing style
